Welcome to the unique Have Your Say
Marine Directory
where we let you have your say on the quality of service you have
received from any organisation in the leisure marine industry around the
world.
Below is an impartial piece on sailing schools and
sailing in Gibraltar but for information on any marine organisation then please use our free search facility.
Gibraltar offers one of the best sailing areas in Europe and is
especially attractive to the British visitor. The nearest rival would be
sailing in the Solent but Gibraltar clearly has the advantage of good
weather for most of the year. There are very few days when sailing is
not possible due to severe conditions and on average, the temperature is
easily some 10 to 15 degrees warmer than the UK at any time of the year.
Winds come either from the East or the West and rarely
from any other direction. However, there are plenty of occasions when there
is no wind at all. It's fair to say that there are conditions to suit
everyone from competent crew to Yachtmaster and for that reason it offers a
challenging yet safe area for sailing.
Another big reason to choose Gibraltar for your sailing is
the sheer volume of experience to be gained. There is just about every
conceivable situation to encounter as you sail in Gibraltar Bay or across
the Straits to Morocco, ranging from close quarter sailing to some very
large ships to crossing shipping lanes in one of the busiest waterways in
the world.
It will be no surprise that so many sailing schools
have set up business in Gibraltar. There are now seven sailing schools in
Gibraltar and all offer RYA accredited courses but we strongly recommend that you
shop around as prices and quality of service differ widely.
If you are visiting Gibraltar be sure to take a look
